A Week in Chicago

I was recently in Chicago for work, but was able to check out some touristy spots in the city.

The Bean – aka Cloud Gate, aka the most famous thing in Chicago. It is a giant sculpture made of stainless steel plates and located in Millennium Park. If you’re at the Millennium Park, go check out the Buckingham Fountain too, it is magical. I stayed at the Bean for about half an hour to take pictures from all angles (it showcases the skyline very well) and to relax in the park. You also get a great view of the Bean from Cindy’s, a rooftop bar. If you didn’t go to the Bean, did you really go to Chicago?

Chicago River – you can’t miss it. If you’re in Chicago, I guarantee you will walk by this river at some point. There are boat tours throughout the day and some boat tours even go to Lake Michigan. I have yet to do the boat tours, but hope to try it out next time.

North Michigan Shopping – if you’re a shopaholic like I am, you definitely want to go on N. Michigan for some shopping. Nordstrom Rack, Zara, Burberry, you name it. There is even a Ralph Lauren Restaurant.

Deep Dish Pizza – probably the most famous food in Chicago. I love pizza and cheese and I love dollar pizza in New York, so I thought I would looove deep dish. I didn’t love it. It was just too much. There was too much pizza dough, cheese, and meat in each bite. But if you want it, the best is at Lou Malnati’s.

The Purple Pig – it has almost 5000 reviews on yelp! I went with two coworkers and ordered four items. 1) Broccoli with roasted garlic, toasted breadcrumbs and anchovy vinaigrette 2) octopus with green beans, fingerling potatoes and salsa verde 3) roasted bone marrow with herb salad and sicilian sea salt 4) milk braised pork shoulder with mashed potatoes. They were all so good. The broccoli was an explosion of flavors. The octopus and pork shoulder melted in my mouth. The bone marrow was such an interesting texture. This is a pricey meal, but well worth the price. Tip: go at 3pm so you don’t have to wait in line for two hours!

Chicago is a very clean and beautiful city, and next time I come, I want to go on the skydeck and experience the glass box! Thanks for stopping by : )
