I escaped the busy New York City to the suburbs in New Jersey for some apple picking fun with my friend. Contrary to what most people think, I love being in nature (even though I hate bugs – I mean, who doesn’t?). My grandparents had a farm in southern Taiwan and I grew up in the suburbs of Hsinchu, Taiwan, so the mud-loving girl in me is still drawn to the outdoors. Growing up, cities always fascinated me and I remember going to Taipei City was a huge deal. I love that everything is so convenient in big cities and there is always something going on. However, it’s so much fun to escape all the craziness for some peace and quiet. That is exactly what I did last weekend, so onto the apple picking!
My friend and I went to Sun High Orchards in Randolph, New Jersey. The farm is about an hour away from the city and there is no entrance fee. We got lucky because when we went, the Fuji apples were all super sweet, crisp, and delicious! There was also a pumpkin patch at Sun High, so I had to get some cute photos haha. There are plenty of apple picking places and pumpkin patches near New York City. Click here for apple picking and click here for pumpkin patches.
It was perfect fall weather with some extra sunshine that day, so I went with a very fall outfit. Booties are a staple for fall, and this pair is super comfortable. The chunky heel adds some height without the pain, and I love the buckle detail! Of course, I had to bring my favorite backpack because where else am I going to hide the apples? Totally kidding!
My gray off-the-shoulder sweater dress (similar here, here and here) is from an Australian online store called Showpo. I discovered this brand last year when I bought my friend and I matching bomber jackets for her birthday. The bomber jacket was lined kept us warm when we were in Boston. This sweater dress is soft, warm, and still in perfect condition after having it for over a year. If you are looking for a new brand to try, I hope you try out Showpo and let me know what you think!
After apple picking, we made some DELICIOUS apple pie with my new pie plate (also sold here). We used the frozen pie crusts from Trader Joe’s, which made the process a lot easier. Weaving the pie crust took four hands and a lot of teamwork, but it was so much fun! The pie was sweet but not as sweet as store-bought pie, and I ended up having leftovers for breakfast next day, yum!
I hope you enjoyed this post and that you’re having an amazing day. What is your favorite kind of pie? Let me know in the comments below! And if you check out Showpo, definitely let me know how you like the brand. Thank you so much for stopping by!
