Home Cooking

There is something about a home-cooked meal that warms my heart. I am definitely not an amazing cook, but I’m proud to say that my cooking is more than just edible : ) I was traveling a lot for work for two months and was not able to cook myself proper meals during that time. I mean, how do I cook in a hotel? I basically ate out for two months and that was what made me miss my own cooking. My two secret ingredients to make things taste better are red pepper flakes and smoked paprika, mostly because I like a kick of spice. If you don’t take spice very well, a little smoked paprika goes a long way. The smell itself makes the meal sooo much better. Today I’m going to share with you one of my favorite things to make. This is not a recipe blog post, just my thoughts on home cooking and my favorite soup to make : )

  • Celery, carrots, onions, mushrooms, potato, chicken breast
  • Chicken stock, water
  • Salt, pepper, smoked paprika, red pepper flakes

I always start off my cutting all the ingredients into pieces. (Yes, my cutting board is pink, just like everything else in my room.) I really don’t measure anything. Just make sure your pot doesn’t overflow haha. Next, heat up your pan, add some oil, and start stir-frying the chicken breast. I do this until it has a light brown coating (not until it’s fully cooked), then add in all the veggies, chicken stock and water with approximately 1:1 ratio, red pepper flakes, and then turn the heat down to medium and let it cook for a good twenty minutes. Basically, you want to cook it until the potatoes are soft and the chicken is fully cooked. I add the red pepper flakes in early to let all the spicy flavors seep into the soup. Once it’s done, I add salt and pepper to taste, and some smoked paprika. AND YOU’RE DONE!

It is that simple, yup. I will usually eat this with some rice and Netflix – the perfect night in with myself and I. Pretty much anything I make is in one pot, because I’m too lazy to wash a bunch of dishes. That is why I also love making pasta! Honestly, sometimes I think the pasta I make is better than ones at restaurants, because I can add whatever I want in it (not bragging at all lol). Even though ordering Postmates is very easy, it is not only expensive but also not environment-friendly. Just think about all that delivery fee you’re paying and all the plastic containers they use to pack your food! No matter how good or bad you are at cooking, there is something about a home-cooked meal that makes it special.

What are your thoughts on home-cooking? Let me know in the comments below what your favorite home-cooked meal is! Thanks for stopping by : )

Honestly, I HATE to cook. But we can’t afford to eat out all the time so I’m stuck doing it. It’s not my favorite, but I do love to eat. I stick to easy recipes!

This sounds both delicious and easy – I also like that I could add or subtract veggies to fit the tastes of my family. Sometimes you just need to be reminded that “dinner” doesn’t have to mean “complicated.”

We always go for the easy dishes. Usually some sort of veggies on rice.

I hate cooking and eat out a lot. It’s starting to get expensive so I do need to make more homemade meals. Thing is, I can actually cook well, I just hate it!

Yummy. Looks like a simple meal I can make on a Friday night. I usually like to treat myself to something nice while I rock back and enjoy a movie. If my kitchen looks pink I’ll surely find more excuses to cook lol. Cute!

I like to cook my own food. When I travel longer than a week I pick a hotel with a kitchen or rent an apartment.

Cooking is totally my jam, and one of my favorite things in the world to do. I love a good one pot dish and smoked paprika is a definite staple in this house. That soup looks mighty delicious!

I enjoy cooking and it makes me feel good to prepare meals for my family. I’m not a great cook either but I learned from my mom the secret of cooking a delicious meal comes from the heart. I also feel that having meals at home bring family together.
