Have you ever gotten a dessert just so you can take a picture of it? I definitely have, multiple times. Sometimes they taste amazing and sometimes, unfortunately, it is literally #eatingfortheinsta. Today I will be sharing some instagrammable dessert places in New York City and whether they actually taste good! Let’s begin.
My friend and I ordered two items – one from the special menu and one from the normal menu. The first item is from the special menu, and it is milk tea, ice cream, and cotton candy around the rim of the cup. The milk tea was delicious and the ice cream had the perfect sweetness, but mannn this was a mess to eat. The cotton candy did not stay for more than a minute and basically slid down and create a pink sticky mess. The cotton candy is purely for show, and I do admit it makes this a lot more special. The second item is the Ujikintoki, which is a traditional Japanese style dessert. It is green tea shaved ice with red bean, flour balls, and red bean ice cream bricks on top. The green tea shaved ice tasted mediocre, but the flour balls were quite delicious. Overall, this was just cute to look at and was not very tasty.
Edible cookie dough. My friend and I went to DŌ when it first opened and lined up for one and a half hour! I’m sure the line is not as long now because there is less hype, but when I walked by last week there was still a line. Is it worth waiting 90 minutes for? No. But it’s worth waiting maybe 30 minutes for. When you walk in, it’s like walking into an ice cream store, because they scoop the cookie dough like it’s ice cream. You can get it in a cone or a cup and can also add different toppings. I looove cookie dough and thought theirs tasted delicious. The only complaint I have is that most of the time when I eat cookie dough, I eat it in small dosages, so my friend and I were not able to finish the whole thing there. I ended up taking it home to munch on later on, which made me think buying that much at once was worth it. When you go, definitely share with a friend!
Colorful layered cake in jars! Looking at them just makes me so happy. This is different from other instagrammable dessert places because there aren’t any seats there. It’s a very small store, so you go in to get your jars and then leave to eat it somewhere else. I think these are perfect for a small get together or even a party because they are just so adorable! They also taste amazing!! There are many different options and you can actually get them at some grocery stores in the city.

They are known for their ice cream in fish-shaped waffles, but when I went there with my friend the other day, they launched the matcha cone, so we had to get it. I will definitely be going back for the fish-shaped waffles though. This time I got the matcha cone with strawberry ice cream, chocolate drizzle, and mochi. I love that you can customize your order to make it look the way you want it to look (you see what my priorities are?). Everything tasted really good, but they definitely could’ve amped up the flavors a bit more. Shout out to Cindy who took this for me when everything was already melting haha.

Ube Kitchen is a vendor at Smorgasburg, which happens every weekend during the warmer months. They actually serve the ube ice cream in a dragon fruit, but there are only 70 each day and I got there too late, so it came in their normal waffle bowl. It definitely would’ve looked better in the dragon fruit, but this is still cute. The ube ice cream was delicious and tasted even better after I poured on the almond milk. It was so creamy! This dessert is garnished with tapioca balls, red bean, dragon fruit, strawberries, coconut flakes, and a thin slice of dried mango. If you go to Smorgasburg, I definitely recommend trying this!
Oh mann this milkshake was delicious!! This is the unicorn milkshake (what is people with unicorn things these days?). What made my day was that they used pocky as sticks for the marshmallow!! Most of the time when dessert places garnish the food with marshmallow, they put it on a lollipop stick that is not edible, but this place took it to the next level and used a pocky!! It was such a pleasant surprise and made this milkshake a lot better. The purple on the side is ube, but with all the milkshake, I could not really taste the ube, so it was more for decoration. I shared this with a friend and would recommend you do the same because it’s quite heavy.
This is a small cafe tucked in on the side streets of New York City, but it’s such a cute place. Yes, I know this is not really dessert, but they do have desserts there and it’s too cute to not mention. The owners decorated the store with children’s artwork, which makes this place even more unique. I got the rainbow latte with pink, purple, and blue. You can pick your own colors, which is pretty cool. They also have seasonal latte art : )
