New York City Studio Tour

I moved to a studio in Chelsea, Manhattan in mid-July and wanted to show what my room looks like before I start decorating for the holidays! For reference, my place is approximately 400 square feet (yes, rent in New York City is insanely high). Let’s begin!

Welcome : ) This is my door and my handy dandy swiffer, which I use biweekly. On the left is my tiny kitchen and on the right is my tiny bathroom.

We will start with the less interesting parts first. My bathroom really is tiny, but at least my shower curtains are cute! There is a decent amount of storage space under the sink and behind the mirrors. I also keep my laundry hamper behind the bathroom door.

And this is my tiny kitchen! It fits literally one person. If two people tried to cook together, it would be a disaster. Trust me, I’ve tried. There is a good amount of storage under the sink and in the cabinets, which keeps most of the clutter out of sight. The fridge is not a normal-sized fridge but it’s not a mini fridge, it’s like a medium fridge. It also opens from the right side! Weird right?

Now moving onto the room portion of the studio! This is the view of my room when you walk through the door.

And now a closer look. Pretty homey right?

On the right is an extension of my kitchen because I can’t fit all these appliances in my actual kitchen. I have a microwave, a brita filter, a Keurig, a rice cooker, and a toaster. The table is from Ikea, of course. And there is Joy!

On the left of my kitchen extension is my living room area. I have a map of the world on the wall for decor, as well as two pillows to spice up my couch. The dark purple pillow was customized on Zazzle and the adventure fund pillow is from Kate Spade. I bought my couch off of Craigslist but it’s from West Elm! I have a pink storage container for my arts and crafts materials and a coffee table (yes, it’s the Lack table from Ikea that everyone has) where I sometimes eat at. Under my coffee table I have another storage unit to increase storage space. And yes, on the left of my couch is the box from when I order toilet paper on Amazon (I kind of use it as a temporary night stand because I don’t have one on this side of the bed yet).

On the left of the sofa is my favorite part of my studio – MY BED! I got my full size bed frame from Amazon (love that my bed frame matches my sofa), pillow from Urban Outfitters (similar here), bed sheets from West Elm (similar here), and blanket from my Mom. I have a night stand from West Elm on the left of my bed, topped with a lamp from Ikea. Next up is my window! I actually have a pretty good view of the Freedom Tower, especially during the day. My curtains are from, you guessed it, Ikea. I have a fan to keep the air circulating and some greens (trying to grow my own green onions).

Across from my bed is my workspace and makeup desk and dinner table. Yeap, I actually use this desk for all those things, because where am I going to put a dinner table and makeup desk? (Please excuse the mess on the right.) Desk from Ikea, chair from West Elm (Craigslist), makeup organizer and light-up mirror from Amazon. When I work from home, I am literally at this desk all day – in the morning I get ready here, during the day I work here, in the evening I eat here. Good thing I take a stroll during my lunch break! I really like this desk because it is the perfect size for my apartment and it also has storage space, which is always a plus for small apartments. It is also super easy to clean.

The next section is my dressing room area, which is on the left of my desk and across from my living room area. I have a dresser with my scarves hanging on the right and a tote bag hanging on the left. And my closet is behind that mirror! I have a standing fan to keep the air circulating in my room and a light to keep my room light and bright. This is the area where I pick my clothes and do my hair (I actually sit on the floor in front of the mirror to do my hair haha).

This is a closer look at my dresser. I got my dresser from Craigslist (Ikea) but the seller kept the Anthropologie knobs on them! My friend painted the painting for me as a house-warming present, and the other decor are a mix of DIY, Ikea, and presents.

Last but not least, MY CLOSET! It is a pretty small closet and I can barely fit my things in here, but I’ve made do. I have my shoes and clothes in the main part of the closet, above that is where I store my handbags and some travel items, and above that is just boxes from things I purchased. The closet actually extends on the right but it’s more difficult to get to because I have to really reach back there to get my winter coats.

That wraps up my room tour! I hope you enjoyed it and let me know what you think about my studio in the comments! Thanks for stopping by : )

Weird… my place is 462 square feet, but I swear it feels a lot bigger than your 400 sq ft! :O

400 sq ft is the average size of all studios in my apartment complex, but mine is definitely smaller. Couldn’t find the actual size 🙁

You have such a cute place – it’s so homely and cosy! I always like seeing how people make the most of a small space and yours manages to look really spacious in the main part of your studio! I love the cream and neutral theme you’ve picked ☺️ x

Space is at a premium in NYC, undoubtedly. However, you make it work, and commendably so!
Thanks for following my blog, which is much appreciated.
    Best wishes from England. Pete.
